Parasitic Infections

Parasitic infections are caused by organisms that live off other organisms, making their hosts sick. These organisms can include single-celled protozoa, multi-celled worms, and insects that live on or feed off the skin. Parasitic infections can cause flu-like symptoms, gastrointestinal issues, and other health problems. They are a big problem in tropical and subtropical regions, but can also occur in the United States. Common parasitic infections found in the United States include trichomoniasis, giardiasis, cryptosporidiosis, and toxoplasmosis.
