When to Call the Pediatrician About Toddler Diarrhea

Diarrhea in toddlers can be a common occurrence. So, it's important to know when to seek medical attention. Here are some of the common symptoms of diarrhea you should watch for in toddlers:
- Frequent loose or watery bowel movements
- Abdominal cramps or pain
- Nausea or vomiting
- Fever
- Loss of appetite
Call the doctor if you see these warning signs in your toddler:
- Signs of dehydration, such as decreased urine output, fewer tears when crying, sunken soft spot on the head, excessive sleepiness, or dry mouth
- Blood in the diarrhea or urine
- Weight loss
- Severe stomach pain or discomfort
- Stiff neck or body
- Severe tiredness or irritability
- Fever of 102°F (38.9°C) or higher
- Inability to keep down fluids for more than one day due to uncontrollable vomiting or retching
- Diarrhea that lasts longer than three days or is bloody
