Biliary Colic

Biliary colic is a steady or intermittent ache in the upper abdomen, usually under the right side of the rib cage. It happens when something blocks the normal flow of bile from the gallbladder. The most common reason for biliary colic is gallstones, which can disrupt the normal flow of bile into the intestine, causing intense stomach pain. If you experience chronic biliary colic and gallstones, surgery may be able to provide relief by removing the gallbladder.
